Ore Corridor and Tippler tour

TRANSNET SALDANHA

The longest heavy haul locomotive transports ore and manganese, offering an overview of the Ore Corridor. This includes the operations command centre, where monitoring of ITPs, planning of loading and offloading activities, and interfacing with external customers takes place. The Rail Traffic Control and Compliance covers the technical aspects of systems such as the CS90 colour light train control, train and track break detectors, dragging equipment detectors for environmental monitoring, and the embedded radio system for communication along the line. Additionally, the description includes the Ultrasonic Rail Brake and the ITMS system, which monitors train conditions and temperature. Warning systems for TCOs and Section Managers are both audible and visible. Delegates can also experience the Tippler, where they can observe its operations.

Koeberg Train Simulator

PRASA
As part of the rollout of the new PRASA EMU Rolling Stock fleet, the need for adequate Train Driver Training was identified. For this reason, PRASA embarked on a project to develop the required train simulator facilities at Koeberg. On 20th August 2020, the EMU simulator was commissioned. The facility currently consists of 8 desktop simulators that enable trainee train drivers to practice driving the train in a simulated environment. The practical part of the training follows a detailed theoretical Driver Training course. The facility also consists of one complete driver’s cab replica that allows for an even more real-life simulation of the driving conditions in and around the new train. This is critical as it offers a more hands-on experience for a  Trained Driver.
